Your message, ready to read.
Hey, a small change of plan for tomorrow: let's meet at 6:30 at the café next to the park. I'll book an outside table if the weather is good. Please bring the photos from the weekend. If it rains, we can sit inside. Let me know if that works!

One small step. Less listening.

From audio
to a quick glance.

01 / SET UP

Choose your audio folder.

For example, Downloads. On first launch, choose a folder and decide whether to start the app at login.

02 / SAVE

Put a new audio there.

Save an audio from WhatsApp, Mail or your browser to that folder. Sprachnotiz detects the new file automatically. It does not access your chats.

03 / READ

Read it. Shorten if needed.

A glass card shows the transcript. Summarize long messages locally when Apple Intelligence is available.

You can also open files manually in the app. Existing files in a watched folder are skipped at startup. The native app's interface is currently in German; transcription offers German and English.

Personal messages stay personal

Your audio stays
on your computer.

Speech recognition and summaries run locally. Sprachnotiz does not send your audio or transcripts to a cloud AI service.

Beta activation downloads a signed public file from GitHub on first use, after app updates, and at least every seven days. No audio, transcripts, filenames or device identifiers are sent. GitHub sees normal connection data, such as your IP address.

Questions? Start here.

A few good questions.

How do I install it?

Download and open the DMG. Drag Sprachnotiz to Applications, then launch it from there. Choose an audio folder and optional login startup.

The beta is locally signed but not Apple-notarized. macOS may block the first launch. Check the source before opening a downloaded app; a signature is not an Apple review. Apple's guidance ↗

What are the requirements?

Apple Silicon and macOS 26 or newer. Summaries require Apple Intelligence to be supported, enabled, and its local model available. macOS downloads missing speech models from Apple. The app interface is currently German; German and English transcription are available.

Does it connect directly to WhatsApp?

No. Save an audio from WhatsApp or another app to your selected folder. Sprachnotiz does not read chats or access your WhatsApp account. It is an independent project, unaffiliated with WhatsApp or Apple.

Is it free forever and fully offline?

The current beta is free, with no beta-license limits on audio count or duration. Future pricing is undecided. Beta access can end or require an update. After a successful online activation you can use it offline for up to seven days. After that, new processing pauses until activation is renewed; existing texts remain readable.

What happens to files and transcripts?

Transcripts and summaries stay in memory until you quit. Audio stays with you. Optionally, a successfully transcribed file from a watched folder can be moved to Trash when its card is closed. Manually opened files are not cleaned up this way.

How do I report a problem?

Use Feedback in the app or the link on this page. It opens a public GitHub form. Include app version, macOS version and steps to reproduce, without private audio or transcripts. You choose what to submit.

Can I change the folder later?

Yes. Open Settings → Quellen from the menu bar to manage watched folders. You can use audio saved from WhatsApp, Mail or a browser; the app watches files, not accounts.

Why is my audio not showing up?

The app detects new files in the selected folder. Existing files are skipped when monitoring starts. Check that monitoring is not paused, or open the audio manually in the app.

Do summaries work on every Mac?

Summaries need Apple Intelligence to be supported and enabled, with the local model available. If it is unavailable, you can still use local transcription with the required speech model.

Why does a local app need the internet?

The beta checks a signed activation file on GitHub on first launch, after app updates and at least every seven days. Audio processing stays local. App updates and missing Apple language models also need a connection.
